Tega Fantasy Slam 2009

We continued to cross the shallow waters towards waypoint 61, where we met up with Clueless. We continued our journey north catching Dorado along the way. Then we had a knock-down on the 130lb ‘bent but’ rod, the line screaming off the reel, the fish had taken a large marlin lure. I shouted to Sunday and Taboo to clear all the lines quickly. Barry got into the fighting chair and the rod was passed to him, already the fish had taken 500 metres of line. Barry fought the sail on stand up while my crew held the other rod, the first sail quickly tagged and released. Barry then brought in the second sail, took a quick photo, then released it. The time was now 12.38pm. Working within this area we were suddenly hit by a big Blue Marlin which unfortunately took a teaser lure breaking the line. I saw Clueless fighting a fish, a striped Marlin which was later tagged and released.

We all now decided to make our way towards Lamu, still trolling, with thoughts of a nice meal and a comfy bed at Peponis Hotel. Robert joked on the radio “if you get a Black you will be heading back to NKB for a Broadbill”. Time now 3pm. ...CONTINUED >>
